Stormwater Drainage For Regulatory Compliance

Storm Water:

Why Care?

Water Restoration

Storm water drainage is a key solution to the problem of controlling storm water flow. Some may believe storm water management is just another strict regulation and unwanted costs to construction projects or property ownership and management. In urban environments, storm water can create major issues:

  • Flooding risk – due to the volume of water, failed drainage, blocked drainage
  • Property damage – due to failed, overflowing drainage
  • Business disruption – due to slow or blocked drainage
  • Erosion – due to the increased speed of the water
  • Water pollution – due to overflowing drainage & contaminants in water runoff
  • Regulatory violation – due to poor maintenance & non-compliance

During heavy rainfall, storm water drainage delivers large volumes of water flow to receiving waters or sewers as a part of flood management. Storm water drainage is designed to effectively move excess rainwater from commercial, industrial and community properties to control and manage flood risks and reduce water pollutants collected from surface runoff. Oftentimes, trash & debris are main contributors to restrict water flow.

Storm Water Maintenance Services

Protecting Our Water

Storm water management is evolving constantly with new regulations and emerging technology designed to protect our greatest natural resources. We are a dedicated maintenance and service provider for all storm water treatment devices. Storm water cleaning services are done for the maintenance of catch basins, curb inlets, storm manholes, drywells, oil/water separators, filters, among other storm water controls, to prevent pollutants from entering our drainage network or waterways.

These pollutants have the ability to directly contaminate drinking water, which is why, periodic removal or cleaning of hydrocarbons, garbage, oil, and sediment is so critical. .Service providers of storm water cleaning help in visual inspections of the site, check blockage pipes, replacing and removing exhausted filters, cleaning of sediment, and debris removal from storm drains.

Multifamily Properties: Connected Buildings & Drainage Maintenance

Storm water pollution and flooding is a major concern for multifamily properties. Property managers are looking for ways to leverage technology and make their properties smarter, more efficient and enhance resident comforts. Pragmatically, we are highly trained to prepare facilities for pending storms to reduce flood damage risk.

Hydrodynamic Separators: Drainage Compliance

As cities across America increase stormwater regulations on new real estate development, drainage flow and detention systems/retention pond rules are frequently requiring hydrodynamic separators to be installed that protect water quality.

Hydrodynamic separators are flow-through structures installed underground as part of a storm drainage system. The term ‘hydrodynamic separators’ refers to stormwater technologies that treat stormwater flows by using gravity to remove particles and phase separation to remove buoyant materials (litter, oils & grease) from the water matrix. Sediments are removed by gravity and deposited at the bottom of the chamber.

Draintech began cleaning early-stage separators in the 1990s as detention/retention ponds were being built with new construction. Now annual maintenance is required. We work with stormwater engineering/compliance firms. Most of the maintenance involves removing trash and sediment.

Flood Detention
Retention Ponds

Detention basins, designed to be temporary storage of excess stormwater, are stormwater BMP’s that provide general flood protection. Retention basins implies that storm water is stored indefinitely. The basins help manage the excess urban runoff generated by new commercial real estate development projects and their newly constructed impervious surfaces such a parking lots and rooftops. A basin functions by allowing large flows of water to enter, but limits the outflow of water with a pump drainage.
